Un passage est particulièrement intéressant puisque Heriot avait retenu les paiements à Philip puisqu'il jugeait que "which he has retained because he found that the money was not expended by that person, in a manner the most advantageous for his numerous family. "  Fascinant, surtout si l'on imagine les raisons pour retenir ces paiements?!

Mr. Heriot D Postmaster General

      Quebec 27th March 1811

Received _ 28th _

Answered - same day

Explaining his Reasons for not remitting Philip Long's pay ? that this Ba ... him should be remitted immediately.

Mr. Heriot in acknowledging

the receipt of Lt. Col. "???"'s

Note of this Date, accompanied

by a petition from Philip Long

addressed to His Excellency Sir

James Craig  .... to state that

he has not remitted any money

to Long since the 12th of last December

and that there is in his hands

a balance due to Long of Seven

Pounds and Shillings currency

which he has retained because

he found that the money was not

expended by that person, in a

manner the most advantageous

for his numerous family. Mr.

H. therefore directed that the supply

of five Bushels of wheat and some

pemice should be furnished for his

wife and children by a person at Madawaska, to whom he

was to have "sent" the accompanying

those articles.  But as Long appears

to be disatisfied with this arrangement,

Mr. Heriot will be happy

to "render" this account and balances

to any person who will accept

of the "task?   " of receiving and supplying

the allowances which His Excll was pleased to bestow.

The balance of £ 7:1:0 included in

the allowance up to the 5th February

last only.
