George Heriot (ca. 1759-1839) was the British civil servant who served as Deputy Postmaster General of British North America from 1799 until circa 1816 when he returned to England. He made large numbers of sketches and watercolours during his tours of duty, and published two illustrated books about Canada. Library and Archives Canada has a large collection of his watercolours, to which those from the Peter Winkworth Collection have now been added.
