Commissary Generals’ Office

Quebec, 16th January 1826.

Sir,

Adverting (?) to a payment made in the month of August last, to Lt Bélanger the present Post Master of Quebec, of the amount of one years’ allowance to 24th June 1825, to Phillip Long for having settled on the Lake Temisquata for the purpose of facilitating the communication between this Province and New Brunswick, and which allowance has been paid to the Post Master for the time being, ever since the year 1811.  I have the honor to state that the Deputy Commissary General of Accounts, in the case in question, calls for a Power of Attorney or other Authority for paying the amount in this manner.  I therefore solicit the sanction of  His Lordship the Commander of the Forces hereto, and beg to suggest, the arrangement seems to have been adopted with a view to the facility of remitting the man his salary, the present mode may be continued.

I have the honor to be, Sir,

            Your most obedient humble servant.

            Peter Durquand

            Commissary General

To :  Major General Darling,

         Military Secretary.
