Free translation of the original French text by Gilles Long1798 - Birth and baptism of Constance LongHere follows the original text of the baptism record for Constance Long.
She was baptized "under conditions" which indicated that there was probably considrable uncertainty that she would live. However, defying the odds, she survived. She would actually marry twice. First to Pierre Beaudry called "Matelot" in 1813 and then to Antoine Arton in 1827. |

Bill of sale of property between Philip Long and Michel Nadeau at l'Islet for four acres of land
On November 28, 1798, Philip Long sold a property of four acres to Michel Nadeau from St-Louis of Kamouraska. The notary public was Augustin Dionne, and it says (in the orignal French) «le Sieur Philippe Long, habitant, demeure à l’Ile-Verte en la paroisse St-Jean-Baptiste». Therefore, from this texte we know that Philip was a practicing farmer at this point in his life, and that he was living at l'Ile Verte in the parish of St-Jean Baptiste. This piece of property was located at the head of the Grand Portage of the Riviere du Loup, in the St-Patrick Parish. Philip Long had pruchased this property from Joseph Fraser on February 6, 1797. Fraser had erased the "mortage" of five "piastres" (dollars) in order to allow the transaction with Nadeau to take place. Two days earlier, Marie-Judique (sic) Dépré had given her consent by making her mark in front of the two witnesses: Jos Sirois and Jean Saindon. As well, the agreement between Long and Nadeau was signed by the notary public Dionne and other witnesses: John Walsh, Jos dubé and Philip Long.
