1777 - The First Evidence of a Philip Long in a Provincial Regiment

The name of Philip Long appears on the Muster Rolls for soldiers that have been absent from their regiments or companies for an approved reason. This document is the first to confirm that a « Phillip » Long was indeed in the military forces early in the Revolution. It indicates clearly that this Philip Long was “commissioned or enlisted” on October 17, 1777. His absence is noted as “sick in QM“.
