1776 - A Momentous Year

Birth of Marie-Julie Josephte Couillard-Després in Montmagny, Quebec on November 7, 1776. She was the daughter of Emmanuel Couillard-Després, captain of the local militia in Cap St-Ignace (sources: Gilles Long, Mgr. Ernest Lang, Gilles Paillard, Julien Long).

The Kings American Regiment (KAR), was raised by Colonel Edmund Fanning principally with individuals from Westchester and Long Island, New York at the beginning of December, 1776. The KAR was later numbered and renamed as the 4th Regiment of Foot. This honour confirmed the status of the regiment and would allow soldiers and officers to retain their titles and pensions after the conflict.
